Schools Basketball Programme

At a glance

Curriculum sessions support the government’s recommended guidelines for children to take part in at least two hours of PE lessons per week. Students will learn the school’s core curriculum utilising the fundamentals of basketball in addition to achieving social, cognitive and physical development through our sessions. We also work alongside regional Schools Games Organisers (SGOs) to manage and support primary and secondary school basketball tournaments as well as arranging inter-school matches, including coaching and refereeing to help support teachers with PPA time. We also deliver continuing professional development (CPD) and inset days for teachers to gain knowledge in both coaching and refereeing, and can offer bespoke basketball coaching guidelines to develop a term-time learning schedule.

Our after-school clubs are a way of encouraging children to continue developing their skills and interest in basketball, and create a pathway towards our community sessions to support an active, fun and healthy lifestyle while making new friends.

FCC also actively works alongside secondary schools, colleges and universities to offer work placements and apprenticeships undertaking coaching within our schools programme. We will help students obtain their coaching, table official and refereeing  qualifications as well as a fully enhanced DBS while undertaking a placement with us. This experience and certification can lead to a paid position working within our schools programme.

The FCC schools programme currently works with over 30 primary and secondary schools in Hillingdon and Berkshire. We are closely involved with the South Hillingdon School Sports Network (SHSSN) and London Borough of Hillingdon’s School Games Organiser, as well as the Slough School Sports Network (SSSN) and SGO, for whom we deliver basketball events throughout the school year including regular primary and secondary school tournaments.

Programme benefits

All new schools signing up to our basketball programme receive two brand new basketball systems completely free of charge and many other opportunities. The basketball systems are height-adjustable which helps support shooting ability at a much earlier age without the discouragement of fixed basketball hoops.

The schools programme includes a mentoring element working with students can receive 1:1 support or work in small groups to address any behavioural issues or challenges.

We cater to each particular school’s needs in  creating incentives for any students falling behind with schoolwork. Our aim is to use the programme as a medium to improve academic performance, increase engagement at school and foster improved behaviour.
